Thought of the Month — September 2018

As we begin to approach the silly season, I want to share with you a story. Back in the August of 2013, my family and I had just returned back from being on holiday, and I found myself a little more sad than usual for the first time.

With my energy levels waning, it was really frustrating as I love what I do, I love chiropractic, and I love helping people, but for the first time in my life, I found it hard to find the ʻwantʼ to come back to work. In hindsight, I am now aware as to why I was feeling like this. I had just spent over 2 weeks marvelling and admiring my new little princess Charli Rose, and now I did not want to leave her at home while I was at work. Once I identified the problem, it was so easy for me to change my thinking which started a chain reaction for my actions which in turn created more positive energy and before I knew it, I was back and better than ever. I can honestly say that this entire process from feeling sad to being back to my usual level of high energy took less than 2 days.

After I had processed this low period, I spoke to Gab, and we both felt incredibly grateful to have known the skills to help me in a moment of emotional crisis and frustration. So now, in this time where we hold material wants above our emotional needs, I come to you with our Thought of the Month… Gratitude.

I mentioned above that I changed my thinking which then turned my action, but I must admit while I was in that stage of frustration, it is nearly impossible just to flick the switch and have positive thinking. So, I wrote a gratitude list. I sat down in my frustrated state with a pen and paper and wrote out all the things in my life, big and small that I should have gratitude for. After I completed my list, I read it out loud to myself 3 times a day no matter how I felt. I can honestly say that it took less than 2 days to change my attitude completely. To everybody reading this, sometimes gratitude is the key to being happy!

To give you an example of what my gratitude list looks like I have included a sample of mine below that I have used countless times to get my attitude back to where it is typically… full of positivity and boundless energy.

  • I am so thankful for the health of my family and the love they bring me.
  • I am grateful for my understanding of chiropractic and my level of education.
  • I am so grateful for our beautiful life in this beautiful country.
  • I am grateful because I know that chiropractic works, and I am very good at what I do.
  • I am so thankful for the fact that I live in Geelong where the food, culture, coffee and experience is fantastic.
  • I am so grateful for all of our beautiful current clients that appreciate all that we do.
  • I am so thankful for my extroverted personality.
  • I am so thankful for all the seminar that I have done and the lifetime of learning that I have had.
  • I am grateful for my open-mindedness.

This is an example of my gratitude list.
