Anxiety, Depression, Time Management and How We Can Help

smiling woman with arms outstretched Ok, so here I sit trying to write my thoughts of the month for July and it has been the first time that I have found the time to do it in 16 days. It is funny as normally I like to have The IN8 Life newsletter out to all of our clients within the first week of each month and now it is day 16. I have been quite hard on myself for not getting it down on paper and then it dawned on me that this is a perfect thing to write about this month as my blog.

It is time to stop taking myself so dam seriously. This is a paraphrased version of a quote for the funder of chiropractic and one my biggest mentors, BJ Palmer: “Don’t take yourself too dam seriously.”

This could not be more relevant of me at the moment as we are coming into the busiest time of the year for Gab and I and one of the busiest times of our lives. Over the next 5 weeks we have the following things happening:

  • 1st year birthday party for The IN8 Life
  • Organising the latest chiropractic seminar in Australia called The IN8 Summit, with over 250 attendees and 10 national and international speakers and health experts. Plus, we will be speaking and hosting the entire weekend.
  • Training new Team Members
  • Educating 7 medium and large businesses in Geelong with our corporate wellness lunch programs around stress, stress management, anxiety and depression.
  • Helping coordinate a 13 days leadership and growth program from 35 chiropractors up in Hepburn springs
  • Look After All Our Amazing Clients
  • Not to mention await the arrival of our beautiful third child.

I did not write the list above to ask for any sympathy or to big note myself but just to show that all of us have stuff happening in our lives and we can decide to be excited about them and take on the challenge that life gives us or we can get overwhelmed, become a victim to our circumstances and inevitably build up anxiety, and stress out about the thing that we have asked for.

I have come to learn that I can only do one thing well at a time, (yes, I am a man I admit that) and when I try to multitask I seem to do a number of things half ok and not finish any of them correctly. When I decide to be 100% present with whatever it is that I am doing and compartmentalise my day into blocks, then I get so much more done and I don’t feel like I am taking on the world.

So yes, it has taken me 16 days to get my thought of the month to you but I can assure you that whilst writing this on my computer I have given it 100% of my thoughts, passion and ideas. This month I challenge you all to do the same and spend some time compartmentalising your time and give 100% of your attention to what you want to achieve in the week.

I will add that it does not always have to be work-related, as time with kids, partners, dogs, family and friends are also super important things to prioritize in your weeks. When you give your kids or your loved ones 100% of your attention and energy even if only for 6-8 mins they will feel like it has been a week worth of love and connection to you.

I hope that you have enjoyed this month’s blog and I will endeavour to get the August edition to you slightly earlier. I encourage you not to take yourself too dam seriously and enjoy the ride that life has in store for you.
