Tinnitus Relief in Geelong West
Does This Sound Like You?

- Ringing, buzzing, hissing, or humming in one or both ears
- Tinnitus that’s constant, or comes and goes
- Tinnitus that seems to change with jaw movement, clenching, or neck position
- Associated neck or jaw tension, stiffness, or pain
- Tinnitus that’s more noticeable during stress or fatigue
Tinnitus is rarely just an ear problem. When we assess someone with ringing, buzzing or pressure in the ears, we look at the whole system, not just the ear on its own.
Three areas that may be contributing to your tinnitus:
- Your neck, specifically the upper cervical spine, which sits right where the brainstem processes sound
- Your jaw, which sits directly beside the ear and shares nerve pathways with it
- Your ear itself, which rarely tells the full story on its own
Tension or restriction in any one of these areas can influence how the whole system is functioning. This is why tinnitus that changes when you move your jaw or turn your head often points to something structural, rather than something isolated to the ear alone.
The nerves of the upper neck feed directly into the same brainstem that processes sound, which is why tinnitus is so often connected to what’s happening at the top of the spine. So when you come to us with tinnitus, we don’t want to guess where the dysfunction is, we want to find out. If clinically indicated, this may include functional motion x-rays of the neck as part of your initial consultation. Unlike a standard static x-ray, these capture the spine moving through its range, allowing us to see exactly where movement through the upper neck is restricted rather than just how the bones are positioned. This gives us two things. One, a safe and clear picture of what’s actually happening in the area connected to your symptoms. Two, the ability to address the root cause of your tinnitus, rather than guessing and hoping it settles on its own.
Once we’ve completed your full assessment across your two visit initial consultation, we build you a customised health strategy report outlining exactly what we recommend doing together to work toward your goals and your results. This includes:
- The evidence based number of visits recommended for your specific case
- Evidence based rehab to support your overall nervous system function
- Access to our in house workshops to support your lifestyle and overall wellbeing outside the practice
